The instrumental "Ellis Island" is four-minutes of driving Funky Organ Fury where BA just lets rip - racing up and down those keys - an amazing dancer and boogaloo tune. In fact I can't help thinking that "Ellis Island" must be one of 'the' great 7" single 'lost opportunities'. This sucker might have done a "Frankenstein" - taken the pop world by storm as an instrumental - capturing the Mod sound.
I love this track and after "Indian Rope Man" - one I play most often. Side 4 is probably the most introspective and Jazzy-Soulful. Opening with Julie's "Vauxhall To Lambeth Bridge" - London's coolest gives us six and half minutes of Acoustic sight-seeing - walking down by the Thames River as Big Ben winks his eye at the hot chick with the short hair tonight the old clock is feeling lonely too. Two covers end Side 4 - the second of the "Hair" tracks "I've Got Life" where the singer has no smokes, no job, no coins - but has life and at least that's free.
We finish on Laura Nyro's piano-upbeat "Save The Country" where Jules urges people and children to come on down to the river and wash themselves in the glory streams singing "we shall overcome". Re-listening to "Streetnoise" has been a joyful experience - I've played it so many times before but on this reissue I feel like it's my new best pal - a face from the past welcomed back and hugged with real affection.

They stayed in New York and were signed up for a residency at the Cafe Society nightclub. As well as performing and recording gospel songs they also recorded some secular songs for RCA Records , who were intending to bill them as "The Four Chocolate Bars", but the recordings were not released.
In , William Langford left the group to form a new group, the Southern Sons; he was replaced by Clyde Riddick — In the group signed a new contract with Columbia Records ' subsidiary Okeh label, and shortened their name to the Golden Gate Quartet. Johnson left in to join The Jubalaires, and was replaced by Orville Brooks The quartet lost their pre-eminent position in gospel music after the war, when they faced competition from the newer hard gospel quartets. They continued in their old style, offering sharper political commentary in songs such as "God's Gonna Cut You Down", but losing much of their audience to quartets such as the Dixie Hummingbirds and the Soul Stirrers.
Henry Owens left in to become a preacher and solo artist. Alton Bradley returned to replace him, but then left in when he was replaced by Eugene Mumford , previously of The Larks. The Golden Gates revived their career in , however, when they toured Europe for the first time, where they became widely popular. The group moved to Paris in and has continued touring, primarily in Europe, since then. During his stint in the US Army, in Germany, Elvis Presley , who was a huge admirer of their work since his early childhood, visited them backstage at "Le Casino" in Paris, and stayed to watch their entire show, staying also with them at the hotel "Prince de Galles".
I did anything and everything that helped forward the music ministry. Always keeping the home fires burning! I did have the opportunity to sing through the years at various, weddings, funerals, get togethers, etc.
Together we raised 6 children who are now grown, and all have a love for the Lord and Gospel Music. Just before Jim passed I was able to spend the last few years singing and traveling together in our family group, singing and speaking about the Love of Jesus.
I Love the opportunity to share the gospel in song. As my husband had done for so many years. As a young girl, I grew up singing with my Dad at church and with our family group. I always traveled with my Dad on the weekends with his Quartet, and on Saturday nights to his radio station program, Gospel Jubilee. Our favorite tradition was always stopping at Dicks on the way for a cheeseburger. I have amazing memories of growing up and being in Gospel Music with my family.
We just celebrated 22 years of marriage. When I would see the bus leave on the weekends I wanted to be on it the next time it left. From standing beside my Dad as he drove the bus, to hauling equipment, to playing the drums, to singing. I learned how to drive a bus from my Dad. And every time I would head out on a run my Dad would call me and say looking tall T!
Music has always been my passion and I cherish my Gospel Music heritage. My son Isaac is 21 and he also loves singing. Papa instilled in him at a young age the importance of following your dreams and passions as he always attended his school choir concerts. Singing has been in our family for generations and we are happy to carry it on.
Hit me up at a concert for a funny memory or a good joke. I am a third generation gospel singer, singing has been my passion, I love ministering and sharing what God has done for me and my family.
Growing up, Sundays and every other day that my Dad went singing I would hurry up and get my chores done, so that I could jump on the bus and head out on the weekend and join him and his Quartet as they went singing.Find The Jubilee Four song information on AllMusic AllMusic.
